El mercurio tiene 88 días a la órbita del Sol completamente. Por lo tanto, un año en Mercurio es de 88 días terrestres, es decir, casi el 25% de la Tierra un año.
La órbita de Mercurio es muy excéntrica, por lo que el planeta va en la distancia desde el Sol entre 46 millones y 70 millones de kilómetros.
El planeta se mueve más rápido su cuando es en su punto más cercano al Sol (lo que los astrónomos llaman perihelio). Y, a continuación, se mueve más lento cuando está en su punto más distante de la órbita, llamado afelio.
