Mars Wallpapers for your iPhone
Written by Fraser Cain
There are so many great sources of space wallpapers out there: Hubble, Chandra, NASA, ESA, etc. But if you're looking for a way to make your new Apple iPhone look fancy, check this out - images of Mars, ready to load onto the little phone.
The images being made available by the University of Arizona's imaging team for the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE). This is the high resolution camera attached to NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Oribiter currently circling the Red Planet. The HiRISE site is already a fantastic source of Martian images. They release handful every day, and there's a really cool image browsing tool that lets you zoom around low res images of Mars without having to download the full sized versions and bog down your Internet connection.
So now when you browse through the images released for today, you can pull down wallpapers at different computer screen resolutions: 1152×864, 1024×768, and 800×600. And there's a little icon to download all the images for each day in iPhone resolution: 320 x 480.
I don't actually own an iPhone, so let me know if this works for you. Maybe this is a good reason to get one.
