Syndication Service Offline for a While

For various reasons, I’ve decided to take my syndication feed offline while I think of a new solution. Hopefully this won’t affect people too much.

After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to remove the syndication service from Universe Today. Originally, this was a simple technology that let other webmasters host my news stories in their site. Unfortunately, maintaining this was just taking up too much of my time. It was also very difficult to incorporate more casual entries into my list of stories, as I had to consider how the stories would look if they were embedded into another website. For example, if I wanted to announce upcoming events, links to websites I like, etc, it wasn’t really appropriate to have that syndicated through other sites. So, I’m going to try and work with other technologies (such as RSS) to provide similar functionality, but give people more control over which categories are syndicated (just Mars news, for example), but it’s going to take me some time. I apologize if this causes you any difficulty, and I’ll make another announcement once I’ve come up with a better solution.

If you read Universe Today on the website, through the RSS feed, or in the email newsletter, this decision won’t affect you at all. It’s only for the network of websites that were carrying Universe Today stories.

Thanks for your patience.
