It Takes Six Minutes to Fly From One End of ISS to the Other

How long does it take you to walk from one end of your house to the other? The ISS is now so large that it takes astronauts about six minutes to go between the two farthest points inside the space station — and that is by ‘flying,’ not walking. Enjoy this very cool video tour of the interior of the ISS, filmed earlier this year.

  1. MAANO Man, do I ever like this video! Its like something I’ve been waiting for since I was born! Welcome to the future! Its finally HERE NOW!

There have been many times when I wished I’d been born a couple hundred years ago, when there were bigger fish to catch! But seeing this video now makes me wish I’d been born a couple hundred years in the future! IMAGINE where we’ll be by then! “Cool beans!” quoth the optimist within!

In my youth, and to this day, I’ve been a Sci-Fi fan. Like many of us, I was totally ‘sparked’ by the movie 2001 a Space Odyssey, and couldn’t wait for a functional orbiting space station. The ISS may not be the spinning wheel in the sky as portrayed in that movie… but it sure is COOL!

Next up… a visit by new friends from the stars! aka Anything’s possible! Come on! Lets go!

  2. My GOD! I had no idea they had that much room up there!

(Mimicking my children) Can we go there now? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE I’ll be good! I’ll clean my room! I’ll eat my veggies! I WANNA GO THERE NOW!!!!!!!!

  3. That video reminds me of the movie Das Boot where the war correspondent, Lt. Werner, was given a tour of the WWII U-boat, U-96, which was ‘packed to the rafters’ with food supplies and stuff, including one of the two toilets — so there was only one toilet available for fifty or so crewmen! (I won’t repeat here the colourful words by the Chief Engineer!) 😉

  4. Wow that is huge and you gotta think that it has much more usable space than here on earth since you can use all 4 sides of a room equally. So really it makes it even more huger in that regard. 🙂 Lucky guys, he’s getting pretty good at flying around 🙂

  5. Wasn’t that Dave Bowman and Frank Poole, hanging out in one of those modules?

  6. I always thought that in space all is silent. But clearly inside the ISS is not that silent after all.

  7. Interesting how the ISS is mostly very quiet, but as soon as you enter the Space Shuttle at the end of the tour the decibel level goes up due to the sound of the enviormental system and the pumps on board the shuttle.
