Space is totally inhospitable. If the freezing temperatures don’t get you, the intense radiation will kill you. Or the vacuum, or the lack of breathable atmosphere, or meteoroid impacts. Well… you get the idea. That’s why most space exploration is done by hardy robots. They don’t need to eat, drink or breathe. They get their energy from the Sun, and they’ve proven they’ve got the right stuff to explore every planet and major moon in the Solar System. Let’s hear it for the space robots.

  1. Just wanted to nitpick here. Space is not actually cold, as temperature is a property of matter, and when out in space, you don’t encounter enough particles for there to be a meaningful transfer of heat.

Unless you’re talking about exploring other planets…

  2. So dam reassuring to here that from you Frasier. I thought that landing on the moon would be all spare ribs and cheesestakes with a little microwaveable FeO to go with that meal.

  3. Hmmmm? No need for humans in space? No need go to the moon then! Let’s go to Mars instead!!
