NASA's Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) satellite has spotted a distant dwarf galaxy undergoing a burst of star formation. This galaxy is relatively close, only 281 million light-years away, but it shares many characteristics with some of the oldest, most distant galaxies we can see. Most dwarf galaxies like this would have merged together into the larger forms we see today, so this galaxy gives astronomers a glimpse back to see what the earliest galaxies looked like shortly after the Big Bang.
