Closest Mars in 60,000 Years

On August 27, 2003, Mars is going to make its closest approach to the planet Earth in over 60,000 years. This is going to be a great time to see the planet, closer and brighter than any other time in recorded history.

Amateur and professional astronomers are gearing up to showcase Mars in their telescopes, and they're looking to share their experience with the general public. Telescopes will be set up in public places around the world. Photographs just aren't the same as looking through a telescope and seeing Mars with your own eyes.

Find your nearest event. Set time aside to attend and make an evening of it. It'll be an experience you'll never forget.
