The new object, named 2001 KX76 for now, is estimated to measure 1,200 km across, and was found out by the orbit of Pluto in our Solar System's Kuiper Belt. Instead of looking to the sky with a telescope, the team searched through older photographs, using a technique called "virtual astronomy". The photograph contains a dying star, shrouded by dust, which is ejecting material at 1.5 million km/h in opposite directions. The young nebula is only 800 years old, and measures 1.4 light-years in length and is located in the constellation Puppis, some 5,000 light-years from Earth Original Source: http://www.esa.it/export/esaCP/ESA9AT1VMOC_index_0.html Internet Coverage: http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/space/08/24/hubble.nebula/index.html http://www.cosmiverse.com/space08270101.html http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/hubble_calabash_010824.html Similar Stories: http://www.universetoday.com/html/topics/hubble.html Related Sites: http://www.universetoday.com/html/directory/astronomy.html Related Books: http://www.universetoday.com/html/books/hubble.html PROTON ROCKET LAUNCHES WITH MILITARY SATELLITE ------------------------- A Russian Proton-K rocket carrying a classified Cosmos-2379 military satellite launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Saturday. The launch had originally been schedule for Friday, but it was cancelled at the last minute because of technical problems. Liftoff came at 2034 GMT, and separation happened 6 hours later on a trajectory that will place it into geosynchronous orbit over the equator - the exact purpose of the satellite is unknown; although, experts believe it will facilitate voice and data signals for the Russian military. Kennedy Library has released a 73 minute recording where President Kennedy made his administration's priority clear that the United States would beat the Soviet Union to land a man on the moon and return him safely back to Earth. During the recording, Kennedy argues with NASA administrator James Webb about whether to focus on the moon landings, or to spread budget across the entire space administration.
