Jennifer Laing talks to Dr. Lu about his training, the challenges of living for long periods in space and his views on the importance of the Space Station. http://www.universetoday.com/html/articles/2001-0709a.html SHUTTLE ASTRONAUTS ARRIVE IN FLORIDA ------------------------- The five NASA astronauts due to launch with the space shuttle Atlantis arrived today at Cape Canaveral. If all goes well, Atlantis will launch late Wednesday at 904 GMT (5:04am EDT Thursday) and deliver a $164 million air lock to the International Space Station, and install it over the course of three spacewalks. Once in place, the airlock will allow spacewalkers to exit the station without depressurizing an entire module of the station Original Source: http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/status/stsstat/2001/jul/7-05-01s.htm Internet Coverage: http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/space/07/09/space.shuttle.reut/index.html http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20010709/station.html http://www.msnbc.com/news/598045.asp Similar Stories: http://www.universetoday.com/html/topics/shuttle.html Related Sites: http://www.universetoday.com/html/directory/nasa.html Related Books: http://www.universetoday.com/html/books/spaceshuttle.html HUBBLE SNAPS BEST PICTURE OF MARS ------------------------- The Hubble Space Telescope has snapped the most detailed picture ever taken of the planet Mars. The photo is so detailed it was taken on June 26, when Mars was the closest it's been since 1988 - before Hubble was launched. Surface details, including frosty ice clouds and swirling dust storms, are clearly visible in this vivid photograph. The study of this phenomena is called asteroseismology, and it has been used to study our own Sun for many years. But by using the CORALIE spectrometer on the Swiss 1.2-m Leonard Euler telescope at the ESO La Silla Observatory, the astronomers saw the same sound waves in our nearby stellar neighbour Alpha Centauri A.
