The mission had originally been scheduled for mid-June, but problems with the newly installed space arm forced NASA to push back the launch schedule. They now feel they can work around the problems with the arm, and install the new component anyway. Until now, detectors could only find one-third of the anticipated neutrinos coming from the sun, but using the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, the team learned that some neutrinos change form as they travel from the sun to the earth. The mission was originally supposed to launch on Friday, but it has been cancelled until adequate tests on the Pegasus uncover the source of the original mishap. Once it finally gets into space, the $85 million HESSI spacecraft will observe and study solar flares.
