The $193 million Earth Observing-1 is the successor to the Landsat satellites, and was placed into an orbit exactly one minute behind an older Landsat satellite. The Anik F1 was manufactured by Boeing, and will provide television service across Canada. This was the 11th Ariane launch for the year. The first movie is of the stormy Great Red Spot, while the second shows bands around the planet. The pictures were taken over several rotations of the planet and at different distances, and then stitched together on computer.
