Jennifer Laing reports on how the International Space Station may one day have its own inflatable module known as 'TransHab' - a home away from home such as you've never seen before. Read the special article, a Universe Today exclusive http://www.universetoday.com/html/special/transhab.html MORE EVIDENCE OF PAST WATER ON MARS ------------------------- New images of taken by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft show even more evidence that liquid water once flowed on the surface of Mars - specifically, there are channels carved into the peaks of sand dunes inside one of the planet's southern craters. Strangely, the evidence is found in the areas of the planet which are colder: nearer to the poles and on areas generally obscured in shadow. The southern hemisphere's winter begins in mid-December, so scientists will use the Global Surveyor to try and catch the activity as it happens. Things didn't go as planned, however, as the automated guidance system malfunctioned as the Progress approached the station. The astronauts were forced to switch to a manual docking system, but they were able to bring the ship in perfectly.
