ASTEROID THREAT REVISED
-------------------------
It turns out that Asteroid 2000SG344 isn't going to have a near-miss with the Earth in 2030. Astronomers reported last week that the spacerock had a 1-in-500 chance of striking the Earth in 2030, but additional data of the object's orbit helped them to determine that it will actually miss us by about 5 million kilometres (12 times the distance to the moon). The scientists who made the original announcement are being criticized for releasing information to the media before it was fully confirmed.

WORK ON THE STATION IS GOING SLOWER THAN PLANNED
-------------------------
The new residents of the International Space Station are finding that unpacking is going more slowly than anticipated. In fact, they had to eat their first meal without knives, spoons, and forks because they couldn't locate them in all the boxes. During the first few days, many of the projects on the agenda have been finished, but many more have slipped behind - an important project in the next few days is to hook up the station's oxygen system, which will give the astronauts a regular source of breathable air.

CHANDRA OBSERVES COSMIC PILEUP
-------------------------
New images from the Chandra X-Ray Observatory show incredible details of a powerful jet shooting from the quasar 3C273. Instead of seeing a smooth stream of material flying from the quasar, the photos appear to show a pileup of material at a significant distance from the object. It's theorized that 3C273 contains a supermassive black hole at its centre, which is somehow interacting with the exiting material.
