The launch is significant for manufacturer Boeing, because the previous two launches of the newly developed Delta 3 rocket have ended in failure. Boeing has equipped the rocket with a dummy payload, and will spend $85 million of its own money just to demonstrate that the rocket works properly. The launch is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00am GMT, but could be delayed if the storm arrives early. The resolution of images produced by Radarsat are 100 times better than any previously taken by other satellites. The images also let the scientists determine the ice's thickness, and track where it thins in the summer.
