Fortunately, NASA engineers were able to transmit new instructions to the computer in time for Galileo to make the mission successful. The spacecraft passed only 610 kilometers above the moon's surface. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/science/DailyNews/jupiter_io991126.html http://www.astronomynow.com/breaking/9911/26galileo/index.html http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9911/26/galileo.02/index.html http://www.msnbc.com/news/337804.asp http://www.spaceviews.com/1999/11/26a.html TRACE SPACECRAFT WITNESSES MERCURY'S TRANSIT ACROSS THE SUN ------------------------ The NASA Transition Region and Coronal Explorer spacecraft captured a unique image of Mercury as it passed across the face of the sun last week. A rare occurrence, the last transit happened in 1993, and the next won't happen until 2004. http://www.astronomynow.com/breaking/9911/27transit/index.html http://explorezone.com/snapshots/1999/11_23_mecury_transit.htm NEW ROBOT WILL BE SENT TO ANTARCTICA TO SEARCH FOR METEORITES ------------------------ Engineers at Carnegie Mellon University are working on a new robotic explorer that will search the Antarctic wilderness for meteorites. The purpose of the experiment is more than just a way to collect space rocks, but a way to demonstrate autonomous classification of samples in the field. http://www.msnbc.com/news/340170.asp ************************************** Space News from SpaceDaily.com for today Virtual Taikonaut Revealed http://www.spacedaily.com/spacecast/news/china-99t.html To unsubscribe from this newsletter, just reply with only the subject line "UNSUBSCRIBE NEWSLETTER".
