Astronomy Deep Sky Guide makes observing easier

The Astronomy Deep Sky Guide is created by Ron Muir and is
a great tool for astronomers of all levels. It offers observing
lists that are suited for backyard observing, near city and
very dark sky sites. It is updated monthly and can be printed
out so you have a prepared guide for your next observing session.
This webpage is written by a active amateur astronomer and
amateur telescope builder. The site includes a page on his
award-winning 20" computer driven scope.

* Atlantis Damaged During Launch Preparations
* Polar Lander Makes Successful Course Correction
* Arianespace Signs Contract to Launch Australian Satellite
* Upcoming Space Shuttle Launch Schedule Revised

ATLANTIS DAMAGED DURING LAUNCH PREPARATIONS
------------------------
While testing the space shuttle Atlantis' wing flaps, technicians
heard a "crunch" noise. It turns out small doors hadn't been
released before the flaps were tested, which caused damage to
the push rods on the flaps. All the damaged parts will need to
be replaced before launch, but NASA believes the repairs won't
cause a delay for launch in March.

POLAR LANDER MAKES SUCCESSFUL COURSE CORRECTION
------------------------
In preparation for its upcoming December landing, the Mars Polar
Lander made a small, well-planned course correction. This is the
fourth correction the spacecraft has made since launch, and it
will make one final maneuver before landing on December 3rd
somewhere near the planet's south pole.

ARIANESPACE SIGNS CONTRACT TO LAUNCH AUSTRALIAN SATELLITE
------------------------
Officials at Arianespace announced they have signed a contract
to launch the Australian Optus C1 multi-purpose telecommunications
satellite. With this contract, Arianespace now has 44 launches
in the queue.

UPCOMING SPACE SHUTTLE LAUNCH SCHEDULE REVISED
------------------------
For a variety of reasons, NASA has decided to reschedule
several upcoming space shuttle launches: a mission to the
space station, originally planned for December, has been
pushed back to March; Discovery's upcoming launch was
delayed at least a day to make minor repairs; and Atlantis
will be pushed back no earlier than March 16th
