GALILEO MAKES A PASS OF IO
------------------------
Traveling through the Jovian system for several years now, Galileo
made a close pass of Io on Monday, flying only 600 km above the
moon's surface. Engineers were worried that the probe would suffer
high radiation around the moon, but it made the pass without a problem.

NEW MIR CREWS PREPARING TO VISIT THE STATION
------------------------
Russian space officials have confirmed reports that two crews
are being trained for an upcoming mission to the Mir spacestation.
It's believed that either crew will be sent up to the station to
prepare it for its upcoming destruction when it's manoeuvred
into the planet's atmosphere to force re-entry.

ASIAN SPACE RACE BEGINS IN EARNEST
------------------------
Western countries have enjoyed being the only countries able to
put human beings into space, but that's about to change. The Japanese
space agency has successfully put a probe around the moon, but has
suffered recent setbacks; Chinese space officials announce their
bid to put a human into space; and the Koreans have put an unmanned
satellite singing the praises of its leader.

APPLIED SCIENCE OFFERS MOON STORAGE
------------------------
Have you got information that you need to keep safe? Send it to the
moon on Applied Science's upcoming mission to send an unmanned probe
to the moon to retrieve space dust. For only $189, you can send three
pages of information which will be landed on the moon in 2002.
