Evidence gathered from an enormous gamma-ray burst in March seems to be associated with a supernova explosion - possibly when a black hole is formed. http://www.astronomynow.com/breaking/9909/29blackholejets/index.html http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/29/gamma.rays/index.html http://www.msnbc.com/news/317210.asp http://www.spaceviews.com/1999/09/29a.html HUBBLE IMAGES STELLAR NURSERY IN LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD ------------------------ New images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope from a stellar nursery in the Large Magellanic Cloud - a satellite galaxy to the Milky Way - show tremendous detail of a unique environment. Radiation and gas spew from massive stars and collide to form second-generation stars, many less than a million years old. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/29/hubble.stars/index.html http://www.flatoday.com/space/today/092999a.htm RUSSIA MAY SELL TIME ON SPACE STATION ------------------------ In order to help recover some of its development costs, Russian space officials are investigating how they can sell time on the International Space Station - some of its early research time has already been sold to NASA for $60 million. Russia has been late with all of its components of the station because they lacked funds. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/092999/iss.sml http://www.msnbc.com/news/317270.asp http://www.spaceviews.com/1999/09/29c.html TELEDESIC CONSIDERS INVESTMENT IN IRIDIUM ------------------------ Teledesic knows a bargain when it sees it. The satellite telecommunications company has confirmed it is exploring "early market opportunities" to allow the company to enter the satellite market without building its own birds. And rumor has it the company is considering picking up Iridium or ICO - two companies in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. http://www.spaceviews.com/1999/09/29b.html To unsubscribe from this newsletter, just reply with only the subject line "UNSUBSCRIBE NEWSLETTER".
