NASA ABANDONS SEARCH FOR CLIMATE ORBITER
------------------------
Listening stations around the world are giving up all hope of locating
the missing Mars Climate Orbiter spacecraft. It's presumed the probe
crashed into the planet, or burned up in its atmosphere, when it attempted
to perform a dangerous flyby maneuver. Only two of the last seven probes
sent to Mars have successfully carried out their missions.

ARIANE LAUNCHES TELSTAR 7
------------------------
An Ariane 44LP carried the U.S. Telstar 7 communications satellite into
orbit on Friday. This is Ariane's 44th successful launch in a row, and
the company claims it has contracts for 40 more satellite launches.

PROTON LAUNCHES WITH LOCKHEED MARTIN SATELLITE
------------------------
The Baikonur cosmodrome is definitely back in business, with the recent
launch of a Russian-made Proton booster carrying a Lockheed Martin
Intersputnik 1 satellite. The first phases of launch were successful,
and a final burn will place the satellite into geostationary orbit.
