A new theory from a team at the University of Arizona believe it's caused by massive tidal swings caused by its interaction with Jupiter's immense gravity. This theory adds weight to the possibility that Europa is covered with liquid water, and could contain life. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/science/DailyNews/europa990917.html http://www.astronomynow.com/breaking/9909/18europa/index.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_449000/449135.stm http://www.discovery.com/news/briefs/brief3.html?ct=37e5b5a9 http://explorezone.com/archives/99_09/17_europa_flexi.htm http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/091999/europa.sml http://www.msnbc.com/news/312605.asp http://www.spaceviews.com/1999/09/16c.html SHUTTLES LAUNCHES DELAYED ALMOST A MONTH ------------------------ Because the wiring inspections are taking longer than suspected, the next launch of the space shuttle has been delayed almost a full month. The Discovery Hubble repair mission was originally scheduled to launch October 28th, but has been pushed back at least to November 19th. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/17/shuttle.delay/index.html http://www.msnbc.com/news/311177.asp http://www.spaceviews.com/1999/09/17a.html YELLOWSTONE POOLS PROBED FOR LIFE ------------------------ In an effort to discover the extremes life is capable of surviving, NASA scientists are planning to plunge a tiny camera into Yellowstone's hot springs in search of organisms. The pools are well above 65 degrees Celsius, which scientists believe is the upper threshold capable of supporting life. Discovery of life here could help support the search for life in space's hotter places. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/17/yellowstone.io/index.html http://www.flatoday.com/space/today/092099d.htm NASA CONSIDERS HUMAN WASTE AS FUEL SOURCE ------------------------ In space every single ounce of weight is precious including, it turns out, human waste. NASA engineers are working on a process called pyrolysis, breaking down the waste without oxygen, and then turning it into all sorts of useful stuff: plastics, rubber, and even rocket fuel. http://explorezone.com/archives/99_09/16_future_fuel.htm To unsubscribe from this newsletter, just reply with only the subject line "UNSUBSCRIBE NEWSLETTER".
