The platform will launch a Ukrainian Zenit-3SL carrying a Hughes communications satellite on September 28th. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9908/31/space.ukraine.sealaunch.reut/index.html KAZAKHSTAN LAUNCH BAN LIFTED ------------------------ Kazakhstan officials have finally approved the Baikonur cosmodrome to continue launching Russian rockets again. This decision came when Moscow paid compensation after one of its boosters crashed, scattering debris over the country. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9908/31/space.russia.kazakhstan.reut/index.html http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/083199/rocket.sml MIR CREW CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY OF THE STATION ------------------------ Now safely on the ground, the most recent, and last, crew of the Mir spacestation are concerned that without a crew on board, the station could spin dangerously out of control. They fear it could lose a significant amount of cabin pressure and make work for the cleanup team - who'll pilot the station into the atmosphere - very difficult in the uninhabitable station. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/083099/mir.sml http://www.msnbc.com/news/303767.asp DELTA 2 UPGRADE PLANNED ------------------------ Engineers at Boeing are working to upgrade a Delta 2 rocket to be capable of carrying a special payload - the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF). This will be the fifth and final launch in NASA's Great Observatories program. The rocket will have 10 percent more launch capacity than a standard Delta 2 when it launches in late 2001. http://www.spacedaily.com/spacecast/news/delta2-99d.html To unsubscribe from this newsletter, just reply with only the subject line "UNSUBSCRIBE NEWSLETTER".
