The shower starts on the Thursday and continues through Friday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_416000/416163.stm http://explorezone.com/archives/99_08/11_perseids.htm http://www.flatoday.com/space/today/081199c.htm GLOOMY WEATHER THREATENS SOLAR ECLIPSE ------------------------ Although they were supposed to flock into the path of the total solar eclipse, gloomy weather forecasts have kept large numbers away from many of the prime locations in Europe. Cornwall is suspected to only have 5-10% clear skies. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9908/10/eclipse.washout.ap/index.html DAIMLERCHRYSLER WANTS MORE INVOLVEMENT WITH SPACE STATION ------------------------ German-based DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (DASA) is hoping that the European Space Agency will give companies in Europe the same access to space research as the Space Commercialization Act in America. They're lobbying the ESA to commercialize the entire European segment of the International Space Station within the next four years. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/081099/dasa.sml LUNAR PROSPECTOR SUPPORTS SMALL CORE THEORY ------------------------ Before its demise, the Lunar Prospector helped provide valuable data that supports the theory that the moon was actually a part of the Earth smashed off by the collision with a Mars-sized planet billions of years ago. Lunar Prospector measured the moon's magnetic field, and the results showed that it has a much smaller metal core relative to the other inner planets. http://www.spacer.com/spacecast/news/water-99l.html To unsubscribe from this newsletter, just reply with only the subject line "UNSUBSCRIBE NEWSLETTER".
