This comes after NASA admitted that several of the astronauts were complaining of headaches, nausea and dry, itchy eyes. http://cnn.com/TECH/space/9908/09/AM-SpaceStationSickness.ap/index.html http://www.msnbc.com/news/298852.asp EUROPE PREPARES FOR THE LAST ECLIPSE OF THE CENTURY ------------------------ Wednesday will be a special day for a few lucky people in a 50 mile swath, from New York to the Bay of Bengal - a total eclipse of the Sun. Unfortunately, bad weather forecasts for Europe may make for difficult viewing. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/science/DailyNews/eclipsesci990806.html http://www.astronomynow.com/eclipse/990808skymap.html http://http://cnn.com/NATURE/9908/09/eclipse.enn/index.html http://www.msnbc.com/news/298570.asp http://www.chron.com/content/interactive/space/astronomy/99eclipse/ GPS ROLLOVER APPROACHES ------------------------ Pilots, fishermen, and navigators will be watching carefully on August 21st for a possible preview of the Y2K bug - the GPS rollover. Built to only count up 1,024 weeks, the GPS satellite network will rollover, resetting back to week 1. Older GPS receivers may experience problems, act erratically, or even stop functioning completely. http://www.spacer.com/spacecast/news/gps-99l.html EXPOSED WIRE CAUSED A SHORT CIRCUIT ON COLUMBIA ------------------------ NASA officials said that the Space Shuttle Columbia was just seconds away from having to abort its launch and make an emergency landing in Africa because of faulty wiring. It seems that electricity arcing between an exposed wire and a metal screw head caused the short circuit. The problem will be fixed with during an upcoming extensive overhaul of the shuttle. http://www.flatoday.com/space/today/081099b.htm To unsubscribe from this newsletter, just reply with only the subject line "UNSUBSCRIBE NEWSLETTER".
