Here are some amazing Earth from space pictures.
This is a photograph of Wilson’s Promontory National Park on the southern tip of Victoria in Australia. This was one of the many regions scorched by fire during the bushfires in Australia in 2009.
Here's an image of the Hubble Space Telescope drifting over the Earth. This was after it was released from the space shuttle Atlantis during its 4th and final servicing mission.
This is a photograph of a plankton bloom off the coast of New Zealand in Spring. This is the point where cold waters from Antarctic Circumpolar Current flow north and meet currents from warmer waters. This mixing creates ideal conditions for plankton growth.
This is an image of the Leonardo module in the cargo bay of the space shuttle Discovery. During mission STS-128, Leonardo was delivered to the station, including 7.5 tons of much-needed supplies.
Here's an image of city lights in Europe. At night we truly see mankind's impact on the Earth, with the bright regions indicating regions of higher population.
We've written many articles about Earth for Universe Today. Here's an article with some interesting facts about Earth, and here's an article about how long life will survive on Earth.
If you'd like more info on Earth, check out NASA's World Book on Earth. And here's a link to NASA's Earth Observatory.
We've also recorded an episode of Astronomy Cast all about planet Earth. Listen here, Episode 51: Earth.
