Here are some cool pictures of astro photography. Now, we're not talking about astrophotography, here, that's a technique to capture images of deep sky images with a telescope. This is just photos of space and astrononomy.
This is a picture of NASA's space shuttle Discovery rolling out to its launch pad. Each shuttle must make the journey from the Vehicle Assembly Building out to the launch pad at a speed of 1 mile per hour. This was for mission STS-128.
This is an incredible picture of the space shuttle Discovery blasting off at night, lighting up the region around Cape Canaveral. During mission STS-128, Discovery delivered 7 tonnes of supplies to the International Space Station.
This is a photo of Victoria Crater on the surface of Mars. This is the crater that NASA's Opportunity rover crawled into to discover evidence of past water on Mars.
Here's a picture of Saturn captured by NASA's Cassini spacecraft. You can see the shadow of Saturn's moon Enceladus just below the rings.
Here's a picture of the outside of the International Space Station. You can see the bright Sun over on the right-hand side of the image, casting a bright glare on the picture, and feeding electricity into the station's solar panels.
If you're looking for pure astrophotography images, check out this article about the techniques, and here are some amazing astro photo pictures from Ken Crawford.
If you'd like more amazing photographs, the best place to look is NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day. I also recommend you check out the website for the Hubble Space Telescope.
We've recorded many episodes of Astronomy Cast, including one about Hubble. Check it out, Episode 88: The Hubble Space Telescope.
