Astrophoto: Moon Rushed by David DeHetre

Moon Rushed. Credit: David DeHetre

This photo of the Moon was captured by David DeHetre from his front yard in Lawrence, Kansas on July 18th 2010 using a Celestron 90mm aperture by 1000mm focal length refractor. He mounted his Canon T1i DSLR to it and focused in live view. The following are the camera specs he used: ISO 200, 1/250 second exposure.

Dave also mentioned that this picture was shot the same day he got his telescope.

“This picture was taken on the first day I’d gotten my telescope. I’d unpacked it, and was planning on waiting until dark to try it out, but there was a storm forecast, so I went out around sunset to see if I could see anything before the weather closed in. The sunset was just tapering off, but there was still a tiny bit of light left, lighting up the incoming clouds in a way that balanced them against the crescent Moon.”
