This photo of Messier 13 was captured by Robert Collins on August 5, 2010.

Messier 13, also known as the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules is composed of around 300,000 stars in the constellation Hercules. The cluster is located about 25,000 light years away.

Robert took this photo using an SV105 telescope, Atik 383L+ camera, CGEM mount and Orion Nautilus/filters. The image required a total of 40 exp @ 2 minutes each.

    Nice image of this cluster and it’s small companion galaxy, NGC 6027, to the right. The tiny, faint galaxy IC 4617 is barely visible between the two.

    I remember seeing this in New York camp ground near Pine Bush west of Walden, 6″ Edmund refactor filled the whole eyepiece. Image I will never forget.
