The increasing cost of gas and oil has a lot of people researching topics on alternative energy. In response to that demand we have decided to assemble a group of links to articles that we have here on Universe Today that are related to alternative energy.

As fuel prices soar,so does our need to explore wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy sources. The first step to increasing the use of these energies is to increase the understanding of how they work and to demonstrate the ease that they can be incorporated into our daily lives. To that end, here is a page of links to articles that we have her on Universe today that we think will provide all of the information that you want. Before you dive into those links, here are a few interesting facts that you may or may not know about alternative energy.

The solar cells used to convert the Sun’s energy into electricity were invented over 120 years ago. These cells create direct current which would be great if most of the world did not use alternating current.

A Dyson sphere or Dyson ring is the extreme of solar energy. An entire star would be surrounded by solar cells to capture its energy for a civilization’s use.

At this time, the biggest obstacle to wind and solar energy is the battery technology.

Some forms of alternative energy can also help to decrease the amount of waste that litters our planet and overwhelms our landfills.

Geothermal energy plants require areas of high geothermal activity(hot springs, etc.). This limits its area of use, but some countries rely on it more than any other form of energy.

There is a great deal more information related to topics on alternative energy in the links below. Hopefully, you will find what you are looking for and, as always, enjoy your research.
