Hurricanes

by Jerry Coffey on January 13, 2008

HurricanesIt seems like there is always a tropical storm that is on the verge of becoming a hurricane. The season starts early and finishes with a bang every year. Some Caribbean nations seem to get hit several times a year, but what causes a hurricane to form? Are some areas really more susceptible to hurricane forces? These are just two of the questions that you will find answered in the links below.

Here on Universe today we know that it can be difficult to jump into a bunch of links without knowing what is in them(you can get lost in there and come out with nothing), so here are a few facts that you will find buried among the tons of other information.

Some scientists think that global warming has increased the number and intensity of hurricanes.

Hurricanes form through a complex series of events, but it all begins with evaporation. The warmer the water, the higher the evaporation rate, so hurricanes tend to happen in warmer waters.

Hurricanes have been named for several hundred years, but did you know that in recent times male names were added to avoid a claim of sexism?

The eye of a hurricane can be as much as 200 kilometers across.

These are just a few of the hurricane facts that you can find in the links below. Enjoy your research and, please, if you get lost, fire off a flare.
