How to decorate a child’s room can be a struggle. If you have a child that is into the planets and other solar system objects, it becomes easier. There are solar system themed products for about every need you may have, be it a birthday, redecorating, or a school project. Several of the products listed are projects that your children can build with a little help from you and others are links to where you can get the object that you are looking for.

Your child’s interest in the solar system should be nurtured, so, in addition to solar system themed products, here are a few interesting solar system facts just for kids.

The Sun contains over 98% of the material in our solar system.

There are active volcanoes on other planets and moons in our solar system. Some volcanoes are thought to erupt and spew out ice instead of lava.

Some asteroids have their own moon. You can look up Ida to see what an asteroid’s moon looks like.

There are 166 known moons in our solar system. Some have oceans, lakes, and volcanoes. Not all of the oceans and lakes are made of liquid water.

You can make your own solar system with styrofoam balls, wood, and paint.

There are 8 planets and 4 dwarf planets right now, but there are several other objects being considered for upgraded status.

As technology improves, we may find additional objects that qualify as dwarf planets.

Our solar system is 18,921,460,945,161.6 km in diameter.

The solar system is 4.6 billion years old. That is way older than your Mom and Dad.

A spacecraft has visited and returned images of every planet in our solar system. Some have flown by the dwarf planets and more are on their way.

These are only a few of the thousands of interesting facts about the solar system that you can find on Universe Today. Below are links to many different solar system themed products. Inside each of these articles are additional links to even more solar system related material. Hopefully, you will find everything that you need and, as always, enjoy your research.
