The Big Bang

There are two ways to a religious argument: you can mention evolution or the Big Bang. Since Universe Today deals with astronomy related topics, we will stick to the Big Bang. It can be hard to think through everything involved in the instantaneous development of our Universe. Some think that it was just that a flash, an explosion, then expanding matter everywhere. Others believe that the Universe may be the result of the implosion of a singularity similar to those at the center of a black hole. In truth, scientists may never know exactly what happened at the moment of the Big Bang, but there are many facts known to science about the events since then.

We have posted quite a few articles about the Big Bang theory here on Universe Today. To help you find everything that you may need, we decided to assemble a set of links to all of those articles on this page. Understandably, it can be difficult to just jump into a set of links without knowing what you might find on the other end, so here are a few interesting facts about the Big Bang theory.

According to Loop Quantum Gravity theory, prior to the Big Bang our Universe existed in reverse. Where stellar material is expanding away from us, it would have been contracting towards us until it imploded and began our current Universe.

The Large Hadron Collider seeks to recreate conditions during and shortly after the Big Bang to discover or dispute theorized particles.

The Inflation Theory was developed to fill in a few of the blanks left by the Big Bang theory.

The two theories that would allow science to definitively answer what happened at the exact time of the Big Bang are incompatible and prevent that very understanding.

To full understand the physics behind the Big Bang theory you have to understand Einstein’s theory of general relativity and the Standard Model of particle physics.

You can find a great deal of other information about the Big Bang theory, as well as elaboration of the facts mentioned above, in the links below. Hopefully, you will find everything that you need and, as always, enjoy your research.
