Here’s an image of Astronaut John Glenn as he enters the Friendship 7 capsule on February 20, 1962 for the launch of the Friendship 7 mission at the Cape Canaveral’s Launch Complex 14. This mission made John Glenn the first American to orbit the earth.

This is another image of Astronaut John Glenn during his orbit around the earth on February 20, 1962. John Glenn, aside from being the first American to orbit the earth, also became the fifth person in space.
This is a photo featuring Astronaut John Glenn during his simulated orbital flight training at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. This is part of his training for the historical Friendship 7 mission to orbit the earth.
After he left NASA in 1964, John Glenn decided to enter politics and became a Senator in 1974. In 1998, he joined the STS-95 mission and became the oldest person to fly in space.
