" A New Hubble Space Telescope Distance to NGC 1569:Starburst Properties and IC 342 Group Membership" by Grocholski, AJ et al. was submitted to Astrophysical Journal Letters(ApJL) in July, 2008. This short paper discusses the findings mentioned in the above article and should be available to interested readers through a Google search. A highly recommended, short, simple explanation of these new HST-ACS observations of this remarkable starburst system. The HST images are icing on the cake! @ ruf & Ignoramus, the paper mentioned gives a detailed explanation of what technique(s) were employed in determining NGC 1569s' distance & probable membership in the IC 342 group.

Ignoramus Says:

Is this another example of a "tip of the red giant branch" distance determination showing up "redshift" as unreliable?

I thought the same thing. I would like to know the magnitude of the error in distance. How much further away is the galaxy than we originally thought it was?

How about no or small black hole as reason for lots of star formation (a few days ago it was said black holes slow star formation)
