nah. it was my mistake, hans... it should have read that the galaxy is in excess of 10 billion years old (or so we think). i have changed the typo to correct the story for future readers and i appreciate you spotting the mistake!

Or maybe I didn't understand it :(

The barred is 10 million years old. Not the galaxy.

May it change or open a new era of space research?

"Since its barred structure was noted back in Herschel's time and its age of 10 million years puts it beyond what is considered a "modern" galaxy."

that's 10 billion, I guess?

Will we ever understand everything there is to know about galaxies like NGC 6946? Perhaps not in our lifetimes.

The variables are so multifarious, we will never fully understand everything about anything....
They are also the reason why long range weather forecasting and computer modelling/simulation are at times so inaccurate. Richie
