The brown glow looks like a blight. So the people of our cities can no longer see the stars. When they can't see the stars, they won't know what all the fuss is about when it comes to space exploration. As a result, they won't support space exploration and our civilization will slowly stagnate and die out. Then the light pollution will be gone, but by then it will be too late to matter. An amazing and awful display of light pollution that has come to our urban areas.
