NGC 3729 is listed in The Herschel 400 Objects, but NGC 3718 is not. They'll be top priority the next time I go out.

If any of you folks want a cool starhop adventure, try NGC 2683 an edge on galaxy in Lynx.

Start at M44, the Beehive cluster (easy to find, always cool) then go north to Iota Cancri, a wide and easy double star with a nice color contrast, "the Spring Albireo". Then NE to 57 Cancri, a tight little double star that can be separated at 200X. Both golden in color it reminds me of a mini Gamma Leonis. Then north to the Sigma Cancri group. Two stars here point directly towards NGC 2683. I put my finder on where I thought it would be and almost hit it dead center FOV. 2683 is an edge on spiral galaxy that reminds me of NGC 4565. It is quite bright and very pretty.

Enjoy!

shailendra? Stay tuned.... As the weeks pass, if you follow the links you'll get a surprising astronomy education. I don't just pick these images at random. They serve lessons, too!

And keep your eye out for great lunar images in the Weekend SkyWatcher's Forecast during the lunar cycle! (yes, his work is awesome and he'll be so pleased you recognized it!)

We'll take you from one side on the Cosmos to the other in words and pictures... ;)

Not only does Dietmar take wonderful images of galaxies, but he also recently took a wonderful shot of Vallis Alpes (see http://the-moon.wikispaces.com/LPOD+Apr+15%2C+2008 ).
I wish more, like him, would look to (and promote) the Moon, as there are a lot of wonderful images that even small telescopes can take.
So many today are fixated with taking images of star-points and galaxies...etc.,, that they're forgetting about our wondeful neighbour -- the Moon.
Sorry, if I went off topic on the above article, but I had to mention Dietmar's recent contribution t LPOD.
