Nice article! Just to point out a few things: The light pollution as seen from Nordlysstasjonen was in the magnetic North-West direction or roughly geographic west.. The new observatory was moved as far away from Longyearbyen as was practical, to Breinosa with EISCAT and Mine 7 nearby. Moving it further away would require building many kilometers of road. And finally note that by moving twice as far away from Longyearbyen we get one quarter of the light pollution. Check our website for webcams, etc.

In the collection of 15 instruments, is there a webcam? It would make a great addition to the "live sky" webcams already running across the globe...

Only 6 km away from the original location? I can't imagine that fixing the light pollution problem! Not for the long term, anyway. I guess they know what they're doing better than I though...

I'm envious of your experience there. Sad that even such a small population could necessitate moving the observatory, but it's new location looks good for many years to come.
