"in europa's case, there are other potential conductors. that ocean may turn out to be quite toxic."

Well that's the fun thing about extremophile life. What's toxic for us could be heaven for something else. We've already found life that thrives in extremely alkaline or acidic environments, extreme temperature conditions, and even inside the core containment walls of nuclear reactors.

i think that , as far as our system is concerned, europa may be the best bet. it has water, a protective "shell" to shield it from jupiter, and potential seabed energy sources thanks to interaction with jupiter.

with that said, i don't really feel that any planets or moons in our system hold all that much promise. in europa's case, there are other potential conductors. that ocean may turn out to be quite toxic.

hopefully i'm wrong :)

Off Topic I guess BUT..... there definitely IS a double underline under all the MSN Live search Ads... also... if they are a problem for you and you can see them coming why click on them (these are here to make money for Fraiser... not give you info)??

p.s. I hope they do some kind of science at Europa in my lifetime.. life there would mean life could be just about anywhere in the universe (which I believe anyway) very interesting!!

I don't think that is a universal problem. I don't see any underlined text like that.

"Also, I am finding keywords double-underlined and highlighted in green. When I hover my mouse pointer over one of them, I get a popup for Windows Live Search. It does this for the term, Siemens, and then offers to give me information on the Siemens corporation. Fraser, is this something you have sanctioned?"

Only if you are the lucky winning 999,999 visitor to UT. I have been, every time I sign on, for three months now.

Slightly more on topic, all-ocean worlds have been an SF topic for years. To find one, and a frozen one at that, in our own solar system is wonderful.

Speaking of frozen, putting a rocket decelerated probe down on the surface of Europa might be a very wet experience.

Great article. I found only one small problem. I have no reference point to understand the Siemens unit of measure. It would have helped if the article had said "...50,000 Siemens, about (five times)(half) that of earth's oceans."
