Hey Google, organize this. Image credit: NASANow here’s an interesting alliance. Google and NASA Ames announced today that they’ll be forming a new partnership to work together on several space-related projects.

First out of the gate: Google will help the agency make better use of its information already out on the Internet. NASA already has real-time weather information, maps of the Moon and Mars, etc. Somebody just needs to organize it. NASA Administrator Michael Griffin mentioned plans for some kind of virtual flyover across the surface of the Moon or Mars. They’re also working on plans for joint research, facilities, education and missions. No details yet.

NASA definitely has a lot of data that needs organizing. They’ve tried working with third parties in the past, but the job was just too much for anyone else to take on. Good luck Google… you’ll need it.
